    Description

Ancient and rare Milwaukee & Prairie du Chien brass lock -- from Stanley Baker's collection!
For your consideration is this very old and hard to find Milwaukee & Prairie du Chien lock made by Loeffelholz. I purchased it at the estate auction of legendary collector Stanley Baker back in 2011. Though the dust cover spring is shot, the lock itself works great. A nine-inch hand-made iron chain is attached to the clevis. The M&PduC went into the Milwaukee & St. Paul (the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul's
    predecessor
) in the late 1860s! It looks great, especially for 160 years old, with just a minor dent on the right side and a few small nicks on the left. It looks like Stanley may have cleaned the stamped side at one point long ago. Stanley Baker was one of the great founding fathers of the hobby; his 1976 book,
    The Collector's Book of Railroadiana
    was my introduction to it.
