    beautiful antique French sterling silver napkin ring is charmingly designed with a bird, a flower and some leaves. A cartouche in the shape of a parchment roll contains the monogram consisting of the engraved letters, “
    F.D.
    ”. This napkin ring bears the French “
    Head of Mercury
    ” hallmark inside a hexagon accompanied by the number “1”, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838 for items destined for export. The
    Head of Mercury “1”
    is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. It also bears the maker’s mark which is not completely legible. This napkin ring is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches due to normal use and areas of darkening on the interior and on the edges.
