Description

A low fired ceramic child’s teacup and saucer that has a brown transfer pattern of Punch and Judy and was manufactured by C. Allerton and Son of England in the late 19th century.
The molded low fired set of a teacup and saucer has a thin glaze with a brown transfer of a Punch and Judy design having a pipe smoking frog in a garden. The teacup has some of the same imagery plus a frog wife with her teacup and saucer taking tea. There are three sager marks on the base of the saucer and the teacup has several spots on its foot ring that aren’t glazed.
On the base of the saucer are the marks PUNCH C ALLERTON & SON ENGLAND R-o N-o PUNCH .
MEASUREMENTS
Saucer – 4 7/16” (11.3 cm) diameter x 1” (2.5 cm) deep.
Teacup 2” (5.1 cm) tall x 3” (7.6 cm) wide x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) diameter.
Total weight 5.3 oz (150 g)
CONDITION
The dishes have very light wear considering the age and material. There are flaws to the glaze such as bumps, slips of the transfer, smudges, crazing, and dots. There are two tiny chips on the saucer mouth rim. They still look brand new considering the small imperfections.
A fun child’s set that has that whimsical fun aspect of childhood. I love the dressed up frogs.
