ABOUT SHIPPING: The shipping charge will vary widely depending on which piece(s) you purchase and how many. I am only able to enter ONE weight and ONE box size into this listing, so the numbers I plugged in are for the largest/heaviest piece.
That is the shipping charge you will see, even if you are only purchasing one small piece!
The same is true if you purchase multiple items: the shipping charge you will see will be double or triple, depending on how many pieces you are purchasing. After you purchase all the pieces you want, you can click "Request invoice from Seller." I've had buyers tell me they don't see that button. But don't worry - I do refund the overpayment when I prepare your items for shipping.
You can help me out by sending me a message asking for a refund of the shipping difference to make sure I don't forget!
This listing is for various pieces of vintage Harker Ware in cocoa pink:
Springtime Englobe Intaglio Dinner Plate -
A little history lesson first ...
The ware that many people consider Harker Pottery's best was a patented intaglio process. The result was a design in white that seemed to be carved out of the colored surface. Often called englobe, the process is actually intaglio, which refers to a design that is carved into the surface. The process was brought over from Europe by German immigrant George Bauer, who brought the idea to Harker. Patented by Harker, intaglio pieces were originally produced in only blue on white. Later, the intaglio process was expanded to include dozens of colors. The bisque body of the piece was dipped or sprayed with color, and then a stencil with the desired decoration cut out was placed on top. Workers then used grit under pressure to sand away the color in the areas exposed by the stencil. The piece was then glazed and fired. The process results in a white design that feels slightly recessed from the rest of the colored areas of the piece.
This listing is for a dinner plate made by Harker with their patented intaglio process. The color is named pink-cocoa, and the pattern is called Springtime. It is approx. 10" in diameter. The backstamp dates this piece to 1955-1960.
Plain 7 Berry Bowls, 6 Saucers - The tops are cocoa pink, and the backs are a rich cream color. The saucers measures 6 1/2" in diameter, and the berry bowls measure 5 3/4" in diameter.
Chesterton Gadroon Place Setting (4 pc) - Another wee history lesson ... Gadroon was perhaps Harker's most versatile and identifiable shape. The word gadroon refers to the rope-like pattern that decorates the edge of these pieces. Harker used several names for Gadroon dinnerware, but it can be divided into two groups: Chesterton (undecorated except for its rich colors and white edge) and Royal Gadroon (very colorfully decorated images). Chesterton was created by spraying the surface of the piece with colored glaze, and then wiping the Gadroon embossing to produce an edging like white lace on a colored background. This option in this listing is for a place setting of four Chesterton Gadroon pieces: one dinner plate, one bread plate, one cup, and one saucer. I have FOUR of these place settings available!
Consider purchase more than one to take advantage of combined shipping. If this is your pattern, here's a chance to add some great pieces to your set!
