Description
Lovely antique sterling silver napkin ring.A smooth cylinder with raised rims; each rim is comprised of six narrow bands.
The outside is engraved with the monogram in elegant script L.O.
Marked inside with "sterling", unknown (to me) maker's mark, and the number 54. Again inside, is a large hand written inscription "July 3, 1914". The inscription looks like it was added freehand after manufacture. Perhaps it was the date of a marriage (and it could even be L. and O. were the newly married couple that day), or the monogram of the person of honor at any celebratory meal, on that Friday in 1914.
The napkin ring is 1 and 1/8 inches high, and 1 5/8 inches across. The weight is 18 grams of sterling silver.
There are scuff marks and small dings as per the item's age; no damage is major. The incisions seen in the last two photos are the date inscribed with a sharp implement.
Loosely polished, leaving remaining tarnish.
I like this item especially because of the hand done date inscription, which makes the item more personal.
