These posters originally belonged to my friend's grandfather; he was the bottle distributor in the Dallas area for Stein Gold and several other bottled drinks. He was given the posters by a local store owner who refused to hang them up due to their "inappropriate" nature. Being a bottle distributor, he didn't have any use for the posters so he stashed them away in his warehouse where they sat for a dozen years or so. Eventually he brought them home, thinking he might be able to use them just for the material, but eventually they were forgotten about until after his passing. His son (my friend's father) found them and decided they were interesting enough to hold onto, and eventually they were forgotten about again. My friend remembers seeing them as a kid (early 1960s) and recognized them after his father's passing in the early 90s. My friend has hung onto them since then and has finally decided it's time for them to see the light of day again. That's where I come in, helping him liquidate and downsize so his kids don't have to do it some day.
There are seven posters in total. This is the first one we're listing; we'll list them one at a time so folks can get a really good look at each one individually. All seven are in equally worn condition around the sides, but fortunately all four have strong colors and their wear is limited to the edges. The bottom left has the Union stamp, and towards the right under the girl's knee is the artist's name, "Gatteys" I believe. There is no writing on the reverse. These measure 22" tall by 14" wide. They're printed on a single layer of cardboard, or perhaps it's a printed piece of paper affixed to a thicker single piece of cardboard behind it. I'm not familiar enough with this kind of construction to know exactly what it's called...maybe some of yall can chime in and educate me a bit about it. :-)
The bottle in the photos is strictly for reference... bottle not included with the poster, sorry. Just thought some folks might like to see what an original bottle looks like!
Note: I'm not a retail store, nor am I an authoritative source on advertising. If there is information you cannot ascertain from this listing, drop me a line and I'll be HAPPY to help in any way I can from this end! Don't assume...ask. :-)
